KOREA FINISH THIRD IN POOL E AFTER 3-0 SHUTOUT OF AUSTRALIA , Thailand beats Rival Vietnam

Korea bounced back from the straight-set loss to hosts Thailand in the previous match with convincing straight-set win in their last Top 8 clash in Pool E in the 22nd Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship at Chartchai Hall here on Monday.

Following the sensational 26-24, 25-13, 25-14 win, Korea finished third in Pool F with 4 points from one win against two losses. Winless Australia came fourth with no point awarded.

Skipper and outside hitter Park Jeongah chipped in with 21 points from 18 attacks and 3 blocks for Korea, while Emma Burton led Australia with 12 points including 11 attacks from 30 attempts.

Both Korea and Australia have yet won a match in the round of Top 8. With Thailand and Vietnam looking set to finish Top 2 for their semifinal slots, the Koreans and Australians faced off on Monday to seek first win in this round.

Korea captured the lead 17-14, thanks to Jeongah’s brilliant form. However, the Koreans became more prone to unforced mistakes moments later, allowing Australia scoring opportunities. As Australia caught up with the Koreans at 24-24, Korea scored back-to-back points to wrap up the close set 26-24.

Holding a 1-0 advantage, Korea continued their good show in the second set. Outside hitters Pyo Seungju and Kwon Minji punctured the Australian defence with their attacks to set an early pace by wide margin 19-9. Australia tried to fight back but failed to make their mark and went down easily 13-25.
