35th AVC Board of Administration Meeting concluded in Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand, June 3, 2015 – The 35th AVC Board of Administration Meeting concluded with fruitful outcomes and proposals from the board members approved at The Okura Prestige Bangkok on Monday.

The AVC Executive Board Members assembled at The Okura Prestige Bangkok on May 31 to find a preview of tentative board meeting agenda ahead of the 35th AVC Board of Administration Meeting the following day.

Chaired by AVC President Dr Saleh Bin A. Nasser, the special meeting, which was held to discuss and approve the agenda of the AVC Board of Administration Meeting aside from raising some other important issues to be included in the agenda, drew attention from the AVC Executive Members consisting of Mr Essa Hamza, First Executive Vice President, Mr Wei Jizhong, FIVB and AVC Honorary Life President, Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, Southeastern Zonal Executive Vice President, Mr Cai Yi, Eastern Zonal Executive Vice President, Mr Chaudhry Muhammad, Central Zonal Executive Vice President, Mr Craig Carracher, Oceania Zonal Executive Vice President, Board Member Mrs Fong S. V. Alice Oliver and Mr Ibrahim A.Malik Mohammed, Western Zonal Executive Vice President.

AVC Headquarters General Manager Dr Rueangsak Siriphol was also in attendance as observer.

However, the 35th AVC Board of Administration Meeting on June 1 saw Maj Gen Charouck Arirachakaran, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Olympic Committee of Thailand, Thailand Volleyball Association’s President Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, and Mr Montri Chaipan, Deputy Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, jointly preside over the opening ceremony.

The Meeting also attracted full-house committee members including Referee Committee Chairman Mr Songsak Chareonpong, Development and Marketing Committee Chairman Mr Ramon Suzara and Board of Administration Member Dr Eom Han-Joo.

AVC President Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser delivered an opening speech by praising all the working groups for their excellent cooperation in making all meetings, competitions, courses and seminars in 2014 memorable successes. However, he insisted that daunting tasks await the AVC including crucial competitions this year.

Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser also reported about what has done so far concerning the AVC activities and works, adding that the FIVB President Dr Ary Graca has realised this and would need to throw in more supports to AVC, especially the active Oceania Zone. Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser emphasised that AVC still has a lot of things to do in an effort of fulfilling achievements in all aspects.

He expressed his gratitude for the TVA’s full supports in the smooth shift of the AVC Headquarters from Beijing, China to Bangkok, Thailand.

In terms of all FIVB Development Centers, Dr Saleh said that the FIVB working group will start touring the development sites for evaluation and after that all matters involving the development centres will be taken into consideration if those development sites should either get an improvement or be closed permanently.

Oceania Zonal Executive Vice President Mr Craig Carracher expressed his satisfaction over the Development Center in Bangkok, Thailand, rating it as “a valuable development centre” for overseas players, especially young talents to come and train with homely atmosphere, good service and support.

Remarks from five Zonal Vice Presidents were also raised in the AVC Board of Administration Meeting.
Southeastern Zonal Executive Vice President Mr Shanrit Wongprasert informed the meeting that after receiving various supports from AVC, DPR Korea have already cleared their annual fees with FIVB and AVC and have requested for their participation in the Asian Women’s Club Championship in Vietnam in coming September. The meeting gave DPR Korea a nod to take part in the Championship, of which the draw is due to be held on June 1. The meeting agreed unanimously to raise the DPR Korea’s request as a proposal for the Board meeting the following day.

Mr Craig Carracher has asked the AVC to take more actions in their effort of supporting and improving beach volleyball activities in Oceania Zone, especially their preparation for hosting the Continental Cup. Nevertheless, Mr Essa Hamza said that the AVC mostly emphasised on indoor volleyball, while the Beach Volleyball Council have already come to the rescue for all beach volleyball activities and competitions.

In terms of TV and Marketing issue, Mr Essa Hamza said, “The Finance Committee agreed the AVC Kuwait account to be closed. The money in the bank accounts in China and Kuwait have been transferred safely to Bangkok account comprising the US dollars and Thai baht. In addition, I would like to inform the meeting that the AVC have already decided to sign a contract with SMM from Thailand as new TV and Marketing agents for coming four years from 2016 to 2019.”

During the Board Meeting intermission on June 1 afternoon, AVC President Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser signed a new four-year contract with Mikasa President Mr Yuji Saeki to strengthen the capacity development cooperation between the AVC and Mikasa Corporation, a sports equipment company with its corporate headquarters in Japan producing football, basketball, handball and volleyball for official matches, games and competitions.

Meanwhile, Mr Wei Jizhong suggested that any national federation not receive any assistance from the FIVB and AVC if they did not pay the annual fees.

Mr Wei Jizhong has also suggested that AVC modify some points to catch up with the FIVB Statute and last but not least, AVC President Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser has informed the meeting about the General Assembly in Saudi Arabia.

“We have already planned for the General Assembly in November. All delegates arrive in Saudi Arabia onNovember 15, while the Board of Administration Meeting and Zonal meeting will take place the following day. The Assembly Session 1 including the Extraordinary Meeting will be held on November 17, with the Assembly Session 2 and closing ceremony taking place the following day. Departure for all delegates will be on November 19,” Dr Saleh A Bin Nasser concluded.
